We have to say, this one was a hard pack to pull together. Mostly because we kept drinking all of the cellar reserve cabernets ourselves, or couldn’t keep them in stock long enough to bring a pack together.

Why do we love this case?

The point is mofo, we got there. We all know aged cabernet can be one of those unicorns, hard to find, but priceless when you do. Our producers have done the cellaring for you, so now all that’s left to do is crack these babies open (although we suggest giving them some airing time before diving in).

Included in this case:

1x Atticus Premium Museum Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Margaret River — Australia

Margaret River rarely has a challenging vintage but the 2009 had nothing short of exceptional growing conditions, particularly for cabernet. Beautifully balanced, wonderfully vibrant and patiently matured, this is a really special drop. Both the bouquet and the palate are chocka-block-full of ripe cassis, blackberry, bay leaf and countless other varietal characteristics. Fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidic structure close out proceedings and push through for a lingering finish with discernible hints of sweet oak. A classy wine with a beautiful mouthfeel and exemplary fruit concentration. You won't be disappointed.

You’d pay $85 full price.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

'That' Coonawarra cabernet - You know the one...
We’ve now seen many a ripper vintage of this baby but with two 96 point reviews, this one might take the cake. It’s one deal that flies out the door and into your kitchen. For those in the know, you’re never disappointed once you pull the cork. A cellar release with a few years of evolution - give it a burl, and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. Usually exclusive to the wine producer’s database, this trickles out to us only when we are lucky, somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get on that lucky list. Boisterous tannins that have mellowed to a brooding, silky palate, with chunky fruit joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, you too should be so lucky!

1x Handpicked Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

2013 is regarded by insiders as one of Coonawarra's all-time great vintages. A bit over a decade of careful ageing later, this bottle is all the proof you'll ever need. This is Coonawarra cabernet at its most compelling and complete. There's a depth and authority here that's genuinely hard to find at any price - the kind of wine that fills the glass, fills the room and fills the soul. That famous terra rossa soil has done its thing completely - blackcurrant, dark cherry and the classic choc-mint character that's become a regional trademark, layered with violet, cedar and spice on the nose. The palate is rich and textured, with beautifully refined tannins and a long, persistent finish that just keeps building. Everything has settled into perfect harmony. Nothing sharp, nothing out of place. Drink it tonight with something worthy - a good piece of beef, a slow braise, anything that deserves a serious red alongside it. Or save it for a special occasion some time in the next few years. Either way, you are drinking one of the great Coonawarra vintages at or very near its absolute peak. That doesn't happen every day.

You’d pay $70 full price.

1x St Hugo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

2021 is one of the greatest Coonawarra vintages ever recorded. And this crew are one of the greatest producers to ever churn the famous terra rossa soils of the region. 17 international awards and 96 points from Ken Gargett - "knife-edge balance and serious length... this really does impress." Five years of age and this wine is absolutely singing. And it one comes from arguably the most famous name ever to make Coonawarra cabernet. We can't tell you who. But when you see the label, you'll get it immediately. Deep crimson in the glass, with cassis, dark cherry, mint and cedar on the nose. The palate is seamless and beautifully structured - blackcurrant, dark plum and dusty Coonawarra minerality running through fine, sleek tannins and a finish that just keeps going. Five years in and already this compelling. The next decade and a half? Genuinely exciting. From a legendary vintage. From the most celebrated cabernet address in the country. From a producer whose name you already know.

1x School House Headmaster Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

We know that Coonawarra cabernet is sincerely age-able. That’s just part and parcel of this region’s charm. This School House cab shows the best of what the famed red clay has to offer, as it walks the tightrope between power and elegance with perfect poise. There are ripe dark fruits of plum and cassis, wrapped up in fine tannins and complimented by notes of toasty oak. It is intense, but also wonderfully balanced. We don’t need to say much more, because this is one wine that does most of the talking.

1x Capel Vale Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Margaret River — Australia

2020 was an exceptional vintage in Margaret River - concentrated fruit, good structure, natural balance, the kind of season that produces wines with real depth and longevity. This single vineyard cabernet is the proof. If you've ever even heard of Margaret River cabernet, this is the wine for you! These guys are one of the most recognisable names in West Australian wine, full stop. They've been making cabernet of exceptional quality (and value) since 1974 - yep, proper 'founder era' stuff. This bottle here is the culmination of tradition, innovation and the experience to chose when to lean of which. Cassis, dark cherry and a cedary, cigar-box complexity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully structured - mulberry, fine-grained tannins, a leafy freshness and a long, satisfying finish that just keeps building. Classic Margaret River drive and elegance without a single note out of place.

You’d pay $50 full price.
