We have to say, this one was a hard pack to pull together. Mostly because we kept drinking all of the cellar reserve cabernets ourselves, or couldn’t keep them in stock long enough to bring a pack together.

Why do we love this case?
The point is mofo, we got there. We all know aged cabernet can be one of those unicorns, hard to find, but priceless when you do. Our producers have done the cellaring for you, so now all that’s left to do is crack these babies open (although we suggest giving them some airing time before diving in).
1x Devitt & Moore Captain D. Bruce Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Rarely do you open wine when it’s in the perfect drinking window, but when you do, you really know about it. With almost a decade in the bottle, its tannins have softened to perfection. Robust and vibrant dark berries are still at the core, but the layers are opening up, offering roasted notes, cigar box, olive tapenade and mineral warmth. Cabernet sauvignon with perfectly aged, fine tannins is genuinely such a pleasure; it makes you wonder why we don’t always wait (nearly) ten years.

1x Jim Brand Wines The Pursuit 'Museum Release' Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Perfection - we expect no less from this standout producer. An iconic name of Coonawarra, and a wine to follow suit. 8 years under the belt has this beauty primed and raring to go.
Whenever we have this producer at the tasting bench, you can be sure there's a few of us salivating over the wines. This cabernet is always an absolute standout, and we all nod in agreement that this has to be one of the best value cabernets we've ever sold. Ever. An extroverted red which refuses to back down, this wine is fragrant with dark forest fruits seducing the nose, while traces of mint and cedar oak add a twist of regional character. A torrent of ripe plum, dark berry and blackcurrant make their presence known on the palate - clearly dominating but steering clear of overwhelming the tastebuds. The finish is superb with great length and a dry finale. An outstanding example of how to balance power with restraint, and succeed - this magnificent cab shows others how it’s done.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We’ve now seen many a ripper vintage of this baby. It’s one deal that flies out the door and into your kitchen. For those in the know, you're never disappointed once you pull the cork. A cellar release with a lucky 8 years of evolution - give it a burl, and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. Usually exclusive to the wine producer’s database, this trickles out to us only when we are lucky, somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get on that lucky list.
Boisterous tannins that have mellowed to a brooding, silky palate, with chunky fruit joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo - you too should be so lucky!
You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Clarendon Hills Brookman Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
McLaren Vale — Australia
It's rare that you'll try a wine with more going on in the glass than this. The complexity of fruit at the fore stands out immediately - dried berries and currants pressed into richer, riper, and fresher fruits. The gnarly earth and game aromatics chime in late as the wine is allowed to breathe, opening it up wonderfully. A magnificent wine that typifies why aged wines - and the pursuit of aged wines - is, for some, an obsession. An integral part of any cellar and a must have for any serious collector.

1x Wild Game Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We love to drag something out of the cellar, dust it off, and have it absolutely blow us away. There's no real mystery to it: great winemaking creates wines that last. This is opulent, luscious, deep, brooding, and still exuding freshness and lift. Its velvety on the palate with an intense dark fruit medley of plums, cherries, and blackberries. That fruit profile persists through a lingering finish, balanced by subtle oak and spritely acidity. Nearly ten years has done this wine wonders - mature and balanced but still packing a punch.

1x Geoff Merrill Pimpala Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Geoff Merrill is a man of many talents. Lucky for us (and you), making absolutely phenomenal wines is one of them. Geoff creates his wines with an eye on the future, everything is held back and carefully tracked until it's in its optimum drinking window. This is what a wine in the optimum drinking window looks like. Full of oomph and bravado, this strapping back-vintage cab is not for the faint of heart. Packed with succulent, ripe berry fruits, charry and vanillin oak and leather – this is not one to pull the bat away from big, bold flavours. Marked by a toasty oak profile, there's a whack of tobacco, clove and freshly roasted coffee perfuming the nose and palate. This is quite the wine to impress.
You’d pay $55 full price.
