We have to say, this one was a hard pack to pull together. Mostly because we kept drinking all of the cellar reserve cabernets ourselves, or couldn’t keep them in stock long enough to bring a pack together.

Why do we love this case?
The point is mofo, we got there. We all know aged cabernet can be one of those unicorns, hard to find, but priceless when you do. Our producers have done the cellaring for you, so now all that’s left to do is crack these babies open (although we suggest giving them some airing time before diving in).
1x La Bollina Corte Medicea Eklektos Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Tuscany — Italy
Most wine lovers know that producers in Tuscany started playing around with the Bordeaux varieties a few decades ago. They were willing to give up their highly-regulated regional classifications in the pursuit of creating the best wines. There was great success, both in the bottle and in the market. Nowadays, it’s no big deal to see a Tuscan winery release a cabernet. This one is so good, Luca Maroni not only gave it 99 points (the top of his scale), but named it the best Italian wine of the year. You can’t really do better than that. It’s cabernet as you essentially know it, with structure and tannin to carry a profile of plums, blueberries, mocha and spice. Luca thinks it’s pretty perfect and we’re not gonna argue with that.

1x Flints of Coonawarra Gamons Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
Flints of Coonawarra are a pretty small winery, in a very small region. The Flint family have worked the vineyards of Coonawarra for six generations, and their wines speak to the quality fruit they produce. In fact, the same vineyard that produces this cabernet has historically gone into St Henri cabernet, so you know this is really top tier stuff. Bursting with classic Coonawarra notes of menthol, blackcurrant and eucalypt, you’ll want to return to glass after glass of this beauty.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
This wine will be a special treat for the mofos who get their hands on a case, of which there aren’t many available. It’s a cellar release that has 10 years of ageing, developing and improving in its future. It’s a cuvèe that is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for the site.
Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish.
You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Hutton Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa — Australia
Dry-grown, single vineyard excellence. A dense fruit core is flanked by (40% new) French oak nuance and ripe tannins that persists through the finish. Dark, moody fruit mixes with spice in a swirl of aromatic complexity that insists you stop a moment to take it all in. A real expression of excellent fruit quality here - so much has gone into the glass and al that is left to do is reap the rewards. Expertly (and lovingly) crafted in Eden Valley.

1x Wild Game Cellar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Red — Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra — Australia
We love to drag something out of the cellar, dust it off, and have it absolutely blow us away. There's no real mystery to it: great winemaking creates wines that last. This is opulent, luscious, deep, brooding, and still exuding freshness and lift. Its velvety on the palate with an intense dark fruit medley of plums, cherries, and blackberries. That fruit profile persists through a lingering finish, balanced by subtle oak and spritely acidity. Ten years has done this wine wonders - mature and balanced but still packing a punch.
