Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this case?

The Lucky Dip Case is back! The first time we did this, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.

Every case contains the same eleven wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.

Then there’s the added excitement of seeing which one of these world-beater wines you will receive as your twelfth.

The twelfth wine is the wildcard and could be any one of these:

An iconic Penfolds Grange 2018 - worth $1000 - (1 in 100 chance)

Hewitson Cask 66 Shiraz 2022 - worth $450 - (1 in 10 chance)

d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2018 - worth $78, - (1 in 25 chance)

St Hallet Sacred Ground Shiraz 2022 - worth $95 - (at a minimum!)

Each box contains one of these epic wines. The odds vary per wine, but each one is a centrepiece wine, worthy of some truly special occasions.

We should say up front: there are no returns on this - click here for case terms and conditions. As it’s a Lucky Dip, it would be unfair to other mofos running in the draw.

The easiest way to guarantee to get a bottle of Grange is to go out and buy one for yourself. If you, like me, don’t have $1000 handy, this is definitely your best (and cheapest) option! Heard enough already? Pop that case in the cart and cross your fingers and toes! Otherwise, read on for a bit more info on all those lovely wines:

Included in this case:

1x Penley Estate Black Bull Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

Guess who’s back and ready to go? One of our favourite Coonawarra producers, Penley Estate, has done the hard work to bring back this mofo fave drop. Aptly named, this robust cabernet packs a punch with strong, flavourful and classic Coonawarra characteristics we’ve all come to love and enjoy. Dark fruits of the black forest abound and surround the recogniseable cedary, minty core; while framed with superb mineral tannins that allow for youthful drinking while still earning a nook in your cellar over the next 10+ years.

You’d pay $50 full price.

2x Warramunda Estate Liv Zak Cabernet Blend 2020

Red — Cabernet Blend

Yarra Valley — Australia

We love Yarra Valley cabernet - potentially the most slept-on style in Australia. Deeply varietal and starting to show just a hint of development, this is an absolute steal and a great way to restock the cellar with something you know everyone will love.
Glistening ruby red. Blackberry, vanilla, spicy oak, and beautifully perfumed floral aromas. Dry, juicy and inviting, displaying supple texture and fine polished tannins. Flavours of dried black cherries, mulberry, blackberry and sweet plum with cedar, cloves, dried herbs, tobacco leaf, and black olives. This is a true cabernet blend that is undeniably a product of the Yarra Valley's cool climate. There's potential to age for sure, but with four years under the belt already, we think it's done its time and ready to be released upon the world.

2x Austins Wines 6ft6 Shiraz 2023

Red — Shiraz

Geelong — Australia

The greater Geelong area has recently staked its claim as one of Australia's premier cool climate wine regions - here's a great example of why. Vibrant and rich but not overly brash or broad. Fruit forward with bright acid and hints of white pepper. A juicy and super easy-drinking shiraz. The ultimate cellar defender.
An exotically spiced shiraz packed full of rich red and blue berries without being overly heavy. The kind of red you can drink during the day - absolutely begging for a barbecue. Amazing colour clarity, a deep crimson with an inviting purple hue. As soon as this hits the glass it's apparent, this is a cool climate wine and you're not going to need a fork and knife to get through it. A special value Halliday award and plenty of love from the wine industry gives you an idea of where this wine sits in the scheme of things. Not necessarily a wine that makes you think, but definitely a wine that makes you feel. Happiness in a glass.

You’d pay $25 full price.

2x Woodstock Deep Sands Shiraz 2022

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

Red cherries and plums are in abundance here, elegant white pepper notes and a structure that will see this bad boy drinking well from now until 2032, and that's a conservative estimate.
This is what happens in the really good vintages. High yields of high quality fruit has meant that 2022 McLaren Vale wines, even in this price range, are absolutely remarkable. Deep sands allow for vine roots to extend down through layers of earth while enjoying relative ease in their environment. The result is complexity through varied soil types and depths, and fullness/richness as the grapes are allowed a long, healthy ripening period. This is beautifully blue fruited and full of pillowy tannins that excite the palate. A delightful drinking experience from go to whoa.

You’d pay $20 full price.

2x Redman Cabernet Merlot 2021

Red — Cabernet Blend

Coonawarra — Australia

If you don't know the Redman name then it is our absolute pleasure to be able to introduce you to what is, inarguably, one of Australia's best value wineries. The quality of wines coming out of this special little place punch far above their weight and can absolutely hold their own with some of the biggest names in the Coonawarra. This cabernet merlot is a mastery of understatement, well-balanced, with ripe fruit, regional minty notes and soft tannins, it might well be the dark horse of this entire case. A real desert island type wine, you'd have no worries having a couple of glasses of this each day for the rest of your life.

You’d pay $25 full price.

Wild Card Wine #1

Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2018

South Australia

100pts Andrew Caillard MW | 100pts Tony Love | 100pts James Suckling | 100pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown | 100pts Ken Garget

“A robust Grange from a lauded vintage, this wields sheer power with such compelling prowess. Uncompromising Grange. There are rich blackberries and plums on offer, together with brazen oak and abundant notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, charcoal, cola and hard brown spices. So fleshy and intense. Dark-chocolate and cocoa-powder aromas and flavors here, too. The tannins are polished and long, extruding deep into the finish and holding endlessly. Dark chocolate, black cherry, dark plum and more. Impressive. Brazen. One of the great Granges that will drink magnificently for decades to come.” - James Suckling

“Deep colour. Beautiful and classic with intense blackberry, blackcurrant dark chocolate espresso aromas and wax polish, roasted chestnut, malt notes. Superbly concentrated wine with deep set inky blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum, dark chocolate mocha flavours, fine chocolaty/ velvety tannins, underlying espresso, malt, oak notes and hints of aniseed. Finishes chocolaty firm with superbly integrated acidity and mineral length. A glorious year for Grange. This will last 50 years at least. Wonderful. One of the greatest vintages of all time highlighting a superb growing season, marvellous vineyard management, the fidelity of the Penfolds housemaking style and generations of imagination and effort. 97% Shiraz, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. 18 months maturation in 100% new American oak hogsheads. Drink 2030-2060+” - Andrew caillard

“A much-awaited vintage that fulfils expectations and then some. It has all the elements that you come to expect but still you have to sit back and marvel that so much can be going on inside one wine. Firstly, it simply ain’t Grange unless it is wearing its traditional American oak coat, and this iteration isn’t going to shy away from that. But perhaps it is the generosity across the board of South Australia’s 2018 vintage that gathers in 18 months of barrel maturation, puts shape to its broad-shouldered dark fruits, turns oak notes into chocolate and sarsaparilla characters on one side of the brain and beef and mushroom braise in the other. All in all, it is a fabulous balance of inputs: big fruit, classically prominent oak, all its structural tannins and acidity fitting cleverly into one exceptionally complex and engaging being. Palate length is indefinite, perhaps suggesting similar cellaring potential well into the second half of the 21st century. Magnificent.” Ken Garget, Wine Pilot

Wild Card Wine #2

Hewitson Cask 66 Shiraz 2022

Barossa Valley, SA

99pts Wine Orbit | Five Star Halliday Rated Winery | Five Stars Wine Orbit | Small Batch

This 99 point beauty is one of our most premium Barossa drops yet - at one of our biggest discounts ever. Incredibly cellar-worthy, feel free to pop this down for another 20 years! From one of our favourite Barossa producers, who have brought us multiple 98 and 99 pointed drops before, comes this incredible special release shiraz that will continue to improve for the next 20 years. Careful maturation in specially selected highest-grade French oak, followed by barrel selection of the finest juice, has helped craft this unparalleled expression of the country's top grape/region combination. Compellingly complex, the nose shows rich, ripe plums and bramble fruit with black cherries. Supporting is an excellent intermingling of charcuterie, black olives, cocoa and liquorice. The palate is simultaneously refined and powerful, with beautifully ripe tannins and a clean line of acidity supporting an incredibly long finish. This is premium Barossa at it's absolute best.

"A compelling rendition, exhibiting blackberry, charcuterie, olive, star anise, cedar and dark cocoa characters on the nose. The powerfully expressed palate is both graceful and sturdy, combined with refined texture and beautifully woven tannins, leading to an impressively long, seamless finish. Totally captivating and seductive. At its best: 2028 to 2047" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Wild Card Wine #3

d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2018

McLaren Vale, SA

96pts James Suckling | 94pts Winestate Magazine | Outstanding, Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine | 4.2 Vivino (All Vintages)

It's impossible to overstate the excellence on offer here. This is superb stuff. This is the Dead Arm shiraz.

There is so much complexity and depth to the wine, something new is ready to reveal itself at every sip. Cassis and black cherry out of the gate. Some riper, richer plums and brambles mix with roasted vegetables and sweet spice. It's powerful but never overbearing, full and rich but precise and focused - everything is as it should be. A wine with genuine presence on the palate. Oomph that doesn't veer into being unctuous. The structure of the wine will ensure it is long lived; while drinking brilliantly now, this is a wine with a conservative two decades left in the tank.

YOU’D PAY $78 full price.

Wild Card Wine #4

St Hallet Sacred Ground Shiraz 2022

Barossa Valley, SA

Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery | 4.0 Vivino (All Vintages) | Iconic Producer | Killer Vintage

There is no mistaking a St Hallett classic - when it comes to shiraz, and when it comes to Barossa, they don't muck about. The Sacred Ground is an old favourite among the 'big and bold' faithful, and this iteration is no departure from that well earned reputation. Rich, ripe, chocolate, earthy and opulent. Little hints of cedar and tobacco sit deftly around determined, full throttle fruit density. St Hallett at their best - unashamedly broad and imposing while remaining stylish, complex, and relinquishing no ground when it comes to sophistication.

YOU’D PAY $95 full price.
