1x Jim Brand Wines The Pursuit Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

When we have this producer at the tasting bench, you can be sure there's a few of us salivating over the wines. This cabernet is always an absolute standout, and we all nod in agreement that this has to be one of the best value cabernets we've ever sold. Ever. An extroverted red which refuses to back down, this wine is fragrant with dark forest fruits seducing the nose, while traces of mint and cedar oak add a twist of regional character. A torrent of ripe plum, dark berry and blackcurrant make their presence known on the palate -  clearly dominating but steering clear of overwhelming the tastebuds. The finish is superb with great length and a dry finale. An outstanding example of how to balance power with restraint, and succeed - this magnificent cab shows others how it’s done.

You'd pay $55 full price.

1x Pirramimma Heritage Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

McLaren Vale — Australia

Who doesn’t love a little bit of low-yielding, full-bodied, South Australian cabernet? We know we do. Sourced from Pirramimma’s old cabernet vineyards in McLaren Vale, luscious blackberry, blueberry, mint and capsicum notes hum alongside cedar and toasted almond notes from time in oak. Secondary characters of black olive, tobacco and rosemary are starting to poke through as well. No need to rush though as this has another decade plus of development left in the bottle. For now or for the future, the choice is yours.

You'd pay $50 full price.

1x Penley Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

Nobody does cabernet quite like Penley, and nobody appreciates Penley quite like us. We love ‘em. Seriously, these guys are Coonawarra legends- take Kate Goodman as a prime example, taking out Halliday Winemaker of the Year in the 2024 Companion. Seriously, that says it all. For lovers of a hearty red, look no further than this estate grown cabernet. It's so luxurious, you won't know what you've done to deserve it. Let us be the first to say: you're worth it Mofo.

1x Reschke RSR Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

We’ve now seen many a ripper vintage of this baby. It’s one deal that flies out the door and into your kitchen. For those in the know, you're never disappointed once you pull the cork. A cellar release with a lucky 8 years of evolution - give it a burl, and you’ll see that it is only starting to touch its prime drinking window. Usually exclusive to the wine producer’s database, this trickles out to us only when we are lucky, somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get on that lucky list.

Boisterous tannins that have mellowed to a brooding, silky palate, with chunky fruit joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo - you too should be so lucky!

You'd pay $75 full price.

1x Hollick Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra — Australia

When it comes to cabernet, we’re happy to drop some buzzwords - Coonawarra, old vine, terra rossa, French oak. Coonawarra is arguably Australia’s greatest cabernet region. Old vines make for concentrated flavours from lower yields. Terra rossa refers to the red soil of Coonawarra that gives its wines their distinct dusty, earthy characteristic. French oak provides that perfect cedary backbone that holds together the fruit profile of cab sav so well. So expect blackcurrant, plum, spice and chocolate on the palate carried forth into an elegant finish with fine lingering tannins. We might have gone a bit heavy on the buzzwords here, but they exist for a reason.

You'd pay $40 full price.

1x Kilikanoon Golden Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Clare Valley — Australia

“I first came across Kilikanoon Wines in my early twenties - I was a huge Riesling fan and they made a cracker so I fell in love early and the value is unbelievable. The perfect bottle to crack on a Friday night to kick off your weekend. Get home, pour yourself a glass, start cooking and hope there’s some left by the time you’re done. We’ve bought the Golden Hillside for years now, and it just keeps getting better and better. ”– Justin Dry, Co-Founder, Vinomofo

Frequently Asked Questions

This curated pack showcases the remarkable diversity of Cabernet Sauvignon across different Australian regions and vintages, from 2015 to 2021. Each wine represents a unique terroir expression and winemaking philosophy, allowing you to explore how factors like vintage variation, old vine fruit, and regional characteristics influence this noble grape. It's like having a masterclass in Australian Cabernet at your fingertips, with award-winning examples that have earned up to 96 points from respected critics.

Start with the lighter, more elegant expressions before moving to the more powerful, structured wines - consider vintage and regional style as your guide. The complex flavour profile spanning from fresh cherry and plum to earthy cedar and eucalyptus means each wine will reveal different characteristics depending on serving temperature and decanting time. Try tasting them over several sessions to appreciate how Cabernet's tannin structure evolves with aeration, and note how the old vine fruit in the Hollick brings concentrated intensity compared to younger vine expressions.

The diverse flavour spectrum from blackcurrant and chocolate to mint and black olive makes this collection incredibly food-friendly across different cuisines. Classic pairings include grilled red meats, aged cheeses, and rich stews, but the eucalyptus and cedar notes particularly complement herb-crusted lamb or game meats. The varying palate weights mean you can match lighter styles with mushroom dishes or charcuterie, while the more structured wines will stand up beautifully to bold flavours like blue cheese or dark chocolate desserts.

The exceptional ratings reflect careful curation of producers who understand Cabernet Sauvignon's potential in Australian conditions, with several featuring Five Red Star Halliday rated wineries. The inclusion of old vine fruit, diverse vintage years, and award-winning producers like the Halliday Winemaker of the Year 2024 demonstrates serious winemaking pedigree. These aren't just high-scoring wines - they represent different philosophies in expressing Cabernet's classic structure while showcasing distinctly Australian characteristics through terroir and climate.

Cabernet Sauvignon is renowned for its aging potential, and this selection spans vintages that are at different stages of their development journey. The 2015 Reschke is already showing mature complexity, while the 2021 vintages have years of evolution ahead of them, developing secondary flavours of leather, tobacco, and forest floor. The old vine fruit and quality tannin structure in these award-winning examples suggest most will continue improving for 5-15 years, with proper cellaring allowing the integration of those bold chocolate and cedar notes into seamless complexity.
