Why do we love this case?

We say shiraz, you say syrah. Regardless of pronunciation, one thing is undisputed, we Aussies rock on an international stage when it comes to producing world-class shiraz. So as a homage to ourselves (well, we all love to pat ourselves on the back occasionally), we’ve pulled together a selection of shiraz that will make you feel as pleased with yourself as we do when we’re drinking these.

Included in this case:

1x Haselgrove Tusail Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

Does it get any better than this? McLaren Vale shiraz with 96pts? From a bloody outstanding producer like Haselgrove? We say, say no more!! But if you’re not convinced yet, it is: 12 days on skins plunging thrice daily for full-throttle texture and flavour (not to mention the colour and tannins!), 20 months in French oak with all parcels kept separate and only blended to the highest standard. The vibrant core of wild berries, rich, savoury dark chocolate, and cedar notes complement. Sounds pretty good to us, are you convinced yet?

You’d pay $60 full price.

1x Hewitson Rowland Flat Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

Rated a 9/10 vintage from the Halliday Wine Companion, 2021 in Barossa provided perfect conditions for high quality and yields. Gee, this producer has been popular with our mofo members by providing solid, true-to-style wines time and again. This is a bold shiraz. Deep, dark and rich. A partial whole bunch fermentation contributes to herbaceous aromatics alongside deep, fleshy blood plums. A good 14 months maturation in oak barrels frames the fruit over the palate with notes of chocolate and an exotic tobacco finish will linger. It’s a smart wine, ready to enjoy now and in ten years given the right cellaring.

You’d pay $50 full price.

1x Rosenvale Vineyards Vine Vale Road Shiraz 2021

Red — Shiraz

Barossa — Australia

This is serious shiraz, mofo. Coming from one of our favourite Barossa producers who were established well over 100 years ago! As for this particular wine, after the grapes are picked at perfect ripeness to give voluptuous fruit quality, which sees a couple of years in new and seasoned French oak barrels. The resulting wine is dark and deep, with blueberries, spice and a touch of white pepper on the nose. The palate is full of fine tannins and rich red cherries and plums. It’s not just a mofo fave - it’s an all round consumer fave bringing in an impressive 4.1 rating on Vivino; Certainly not something you see every day. Calling all Aussie red lovers, this one should catch your attention!

You’d pay $60 full price.

1x Kilikanoon Ridgeline Shiraz 2020

Red — Shiraz

Clare Valley — Australia

Kilikanoon...one of the Clare’s absolute best and one of our absolute faves. The name Ridgeline is graced to this wine as a recognition of the tip-top grapes that go into it. Seriously, only a select few rows at the very top of the hill on their Morrison’s Vineyard make this shiraz the special wine it is. There’s a smidge of new oak used here, but the majority is older barrels to the tune of 15 months. This provides a bit of texture and structure while still letting that fruit sing. We found dark cherry, plum, dried herbs and licorice all wrapped up in a savoury blanket with a lengthy finish and ripe tannins. Another hit from a producer that seems to know no other way.

You’d pay $65 full price.

1x Sorby Adams The Reverend Canon Shiraz 2017

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

This Barossa shiraz speaks of the powerful Barossa terroir and the master crafters who made it. It’s powerful and opulent, but maintains a certain grace that keeps everything in balance. There’s no surprises here with the flavour profile, an expression of blackberry, plum, chocolate, spices and cedar from the use of 30% new French oak. After six years in bottle, it’s drinking beautifully now, but has another decade of prime left in it for those patient types.

You’d pay $75 full price.

1x Archery Road Shiraz 2019

Red — Shiraz

Barossa Valley — Australia

We could pretty easily polish off a bottle or two of this over a long dinner, the kind where friends, family, and even foes celebrate in the joy of good company and great wine. Simply silky shiraz from the Barossa Valley shows off its prowess here, and will bounce into your life with such confidence that you’ll feel like you’ve been friends since the dawn of time. Cocoa and blood plums, melting into blackcurrants, baking spices and fine tannins that will dance on your palate long after the wine in your glass is depleted. Delectable, delightful, and only a little bit devilish- after all, it’ll have you addicted.

You’d pay $55 full price.
