I can't get enough chenin blanc in my life - it is my persistent white wine obsession. Borrowing stylistic richness from chardonnay and piercing acidity from riesling, it truly is the best of both worlds.

Why do we love this case?
Chenin blanc's spiritual (and indeed, actual) home is in France - the Loire Valley to really dial in on it. There the varietal is produced as still, sparkling, lusciously sweet, bone dry, off dry... it is a little riesling-eque in its versatility. As so many French natives find their way offshore, so too has chenin blanc. In the modern wine making era, world-leading examples are produced in South Africa, South America, and closer to home in Margaret River. Here are three such examples.
1x Metzer Wines Montane Chenin Blanc 2018
White — Chenin Blanc
South Africa — South Africa
Metzer Family Wines started back in 2006 with a focus on minimal intervention, and they’ve stuck to their guns and become examples in their field. If you ask us, their chenin blancs are what you want to come to the party for: letting the complexities and intrigue of this variety shine with each expression.
This chenin comes from a bush vine block planted back in 1964. Following nine months on lees in seasoned French oak, it was bottled almost as is, with just the large lees left behind. It’s this step that has meant a huge amount for the wine in bottle a few years later; aromas of baked apple, hay and ginger abound, leading to a textural palate with evident minerality and citrusy acid. Great chenin shows complexity in it’s youth and a great deal more a decade down the track, and you can be sure that this beauty will offer both.
You’d pay $100 full price.

Tasting Notes
1x El Enemigo Chenin Blanc 2021
White — Chenin Blanc
Mendoza — Argentina
We've been huge fans of El Enemigo for years, especially their chardonnay. James Suckling has always felt the same way, often awarding it 97+ points. We're also lovers of chenin blanc, so we felt that the idea of El Enemigo making a chenin blanc was a potential match made in heaven. Once we had our first taste, we knew this to be true. The fruit is sourced from 50 year old vines (who knew there were chenin vines that old in Mendoza!!!), pressed in whole clusters and then bottled unfined and unfiltered. We're talking texture for days, minerality, almond meal, cured lemon and a mouthwatering underscore of subtle salinity. It often takes a producer years to nail a new variety, but El Enemigo has done it in their first go round. Lucky us!
You’d pay $80 full price.

1x Moss Brothers Wild Garden Chenin Blanc 2022
White — Chenin Blanc
Margaret River — Australia
I can’t speak highly enough of chenin blanc - it’s always at the top of my favourites list. This is classic for Margs; pear drop, honeysuckle, and a hint of vanilla at the fore, then gaining complexity as it comes up to room temperature. Think quince, ripe pear, preserved lemon, and a little brioche. A precise, confident expression of Margaret River chenin.
You’d pay $30 full price.
