Elderton
Winner of a 2022 South Australian Best of Wine Tourism Award, the Elderton cellar door is set in an 1918 bungalow overlooking their 1894 Command Vineyard - and what’s not to love about that? We’ve not even touched on the wines yet - with a whole range of tasting experiences on offer, there’s something for you whatever you’re looking for; be it pairings, a straight flight, behind the scenes tour or even a game on their grass tennis court. Pindarie
The Pindarie cellar door has received numerous tourism awards in the region, and it’s easy to see why. Nestled in their restored, heritage former stable block, you’ve got the opportunity to taste their estate and reserve wines, or graze in their Grain Store restaurant - though why not combine them both? Their Walk/Taste/Graze experience allows you to take in a tour of their regenerative working farm and see close-up how the vines & seasonal ingredients make it from the field to your glass & plate.

Rockford
Fine Barossa tradition is in full flow at Rockford, not just in the heritage surrounds of their tasting room but also in the wines on show. You’ll find original varietals here like frontignac and semillon, plus regional gems like riesling and GSM, with a focus on crafting wines that go from strength to strength over years. Intimacy is the order of the day here too - group numbers are capped at 6.

First Drop
Housed at the former site of a little known winery called Penfold’s, the team at First Drop offer a cellar door and tapas bar in the 1930s heritage building - where you can mix up the local and seasonal dishes along with a tasting flight, glass or bottle and have fun creating your next favourite Barossa pairing. We 100% recommend their seafood. Want to leave the pairings in their hands? Seppeltsfield
You probably already know them through their wines - they’ve been making single estate drops in the Barossa since 1878. Describing them as “icons” probably falls short - “royalty” is closer to the mark. You can sample that pedigree for yourself - with the opportunity to taste your birth year wine and their premium icons in their tasting room, as well as a standard tasting of their current range. Fancy checking out a 100 year old Tawny port? You can do that here too - it received a whopping 100pts from the esteemed palates at Halliday. Yes, you read that correctly - a perfect 100pts. Otherwise there’s also heaps of tours with different focuses depending on what you’re interested to learn about, an onsite restaurant open for lunch, other artisanal producers housed in the building, and accommodation available too if you want to stay and take it all in. Phew.

Z Wine
Smack bang in the middle of Tanunda’s eclectic high street you’ll find Z Wine’s urban cellar door. Owned by sisters Janelle and Kristin Zerk, their family put down roots in the Barossa way back in 1846, with the duo going out on their own to set up their eponymous “Z’ label. They’ve continued that family affair in naming some of their award-winning wines after the next generation of Zerks (who we can only hope decide to follow a calling to produce great Barossa wines too). Relax into a tasting flight alongside a seasonal platter, and they also provide a platform for local artists to perform live on Friday and Saturday evenings too, if you’d like a melody to accompany the music in your glass.

Henschke
Another Barossa big-gun where “great” doesn’t really do justice, does it? Henschke are one of Australia’s first families of wine, with their cellar door housed in a grain barn partly built by first-generation winemaker Johann back in the 1860s - giving you chance to sip and swirl wines that represent 150 years of winemaking heritage, with more exciting things no doubt to come. Treat yourself to a tasting flight featuring exceptional quality, single vineyard small parcel wines from their estate - and if you’re keen to really dig deep, there are in depth Mount Edelstone and Hill of Grace tours available where you can get up-close-and-personal with those storied vines & wines.
Torbreck
For the last three decades, Torbreck have been singular in their focus - to produce outstanding Rhône style wines from the exceptional soils of the Barossa. And for our money they are more than exceeding that mission statement. Head down to their sleek cellar door for a tasting to see for yourself, and check out booking into their Clan Room tasting if you’re looking to delve deeper into their premium back vintages.

Hentley Farm
We struggle to find words or phrases that feel “big” enough to encapsulate the rep of some of Barossa’s finest wineries, so we’ll beg forgiveness of James Halliday and steal his description of Hentley Farm - “... as close as you're ever going to find in Australia to a grand cru Burgundy or first-growth Bordeaux.” Is there much finer praise? Award-winning wines focused on soil and site - expect premium shiraz, grenache, cabernet sauvignon and riesling - aka the hits of the Barossa, made exceptionally well. If that wasn’t reason enough to visit, their restaurant was also awarded three hats by the AGFG.

Yalumba
Lots going on at Yalumba - including 170 years of heritage to explore. If you’re looking to sample their latest, there’s the wine room, but don’t look past the other experiences on offer too - including icon tastings, private tours, even a chance to check out their onsite cooperage where they’ve been making barrels for over 100 years. Platters available with tastings, plus picnic packs to enjoy at leisure in their stunning grounds.

Lindsay Wine Estates
If you’re after a cellar door to relax into, head to Lindsay Wine Estates. Offering tasting flights of their estate grown Barossa beauties, they’re also home to an extensive vinyl collection - we’re talking a few thousand records regularly rotating on their turntable in the renovated heritage property. There’s always the option of grabbing a platter and heading to the lawns outfront, set amidst a block of vines reserved for their fortifieds - and a woodfired pizza oven outback gets fired up at the weekend.

Grant Burge
Another generational enterprise, the Burge family have called Barossa home since the 1800s, and five generations have been winemaking here. Meshach Burge kicked everything off in 1865, and the label has gone from strength to strength since then - and the cellar door (plus their signature wine) carries his moniker. Appointed by stunning views, swing by for a tasting flight to swirl and sip through their history.
