Supporting equity for women in the wine industry isn’t limited to a few token days of the year - we’re on the journey all year round.

If you’re stuck for where to start (or interested to know how you can contribute), here’s five ways you can support fantastic female winemakers and female-led brands as a consumer, and also encourage equity in the wine biz to boot.

The best part? All you have to do is discover your next favourite wine.

“... more of Australia’s finest wines are made by women than men today...” - Huon Hooke

  1. Search out and drink good wines: Do what you do already - look for (and enjoy) your next great wine. You’ll probably find it’s been made by a female winemaker. Wine writer Huon Hooke has made the claim that “more of Australia’s finest wines are made by women than men today”; when he namechecks huge names like Penfolds, Wynns, Yarra Yering, Cullen and Vasse Felix (who all have female winemakers) it's hard to argue otherwise. We’ve made it easy for you to pick out the wines that have women at the helm, by creating our Women in Wine collection. Start your search there.

  2. Join a wine club that features women winemakers: There are a bunch of wine clubs out there that focus on featuring wines made by women - such as ours, where every box features wine by female winemakers and female-led wineries as a matter of course. By signing up for one of these clubs, you can regularly receive shipments of your next favourite wines and support businesses long-term.

  3. Get yourself to events featuring female winemakers: Look for tastings and events that showcase the work of female winemakers or female-led wineries. It's a great way to learn more about their wines and show support for businesses - plus, have a cheeky sample glass or three.

  4. Brush up on your winery knowledge: As you’re searching, take the time to learn about the history and experiences of female winemakers and chat to others about what you’re drinking - you never know, they might have a recommendation for you. By shining a light on the contributions of women in the wine industry, you can help support and promote equality. Check out our Women in Wine vinofiles to hear their stories.

  5. Take to social media to spread the word: Use your social media game to share your love for female winemakers and their wines. Tag the winemaker or winery and throw in some relevant hashtags (like #womeninwine) and share the wines you’re vibing so that others can discover them too.
