Thorne & Daughters Rocking Horse White Blend 2019
- Cape Town
The white blends and alternative varietal wines of South Africa never cease to amaze us. This blend of roussanne, semillon, chenin blanc, chardonnay and clairette blanche is “beautifully balanced and offering layers and layers of flavour” according to reviewer Christian Eedes and we think it is simply magic!
This is a carefully-calculated mosaic of ripe, supple fruit, with pitch-perfect texture and just the right weight of richness. Clearly, the blend offers a new palate of flavours that you wouldn’t manage to achieve by single varieties alone. To give you an idea, think white and yellow peach, with gentle spice and a hint of brioche. This wine is the result of some of the very finest fruit combined with inconceivably masterful winemaking. Not only does it offer a truly unique flavour profile that can’t really be found anywhere else, but the quality is laid bare with every sip for all to see. The best way to find out is to try it. It will not disappoint.
“The “cornerstone wine” of the range, this is probably the best vintage to date. A blend of 36% Roussanne, 25% Semillon, 22% Chenin Blanc, 11% Chardonnay and 6% Clairette Blanche. The nose is extraordinarily complex with notes of green, yellow and white fruit (take your pick) plus florals, spice and some leesy complexity. The palate has lovely fruit definition, racy acidity and great length. Beautifully balanced and offering layers and layers of flavour, this once again delivers a winning combination of moreishness and cerebral satisfaction.”
