Kara-Tara Chardonnay 2021
- Textural
- South Africa
Rüdger van Wyk grew up in a small town along the Karatara river, three hours outside of Cape Town. He caught the wine bug from his older brother, a winemaker, and inherited a love of all things gardening from his father. The 2018 Diner’s Club Young Winemaker of the Year draws inspiration from Burgundy when crafting his wines, sourcing fruit from a variety of cool climate growers. This chardonnay comes from two vineyards, located in Paarl and Overberg. There’s lemon and grapefruit providing the citrus element, with almond notes and fine minerality on the finish. Nine months on lees in seasoned oak has built texture and weight into the wine without imparting cedary characteristics. We’re extremely excited to offer Rüdger’s wines for the first time in Australia. Don’t miss your chance to check out a rising star in the South African wine scene.
