Julien Schaal Grand Cru Rosacker Riesling 2019
Julien Schaal is known for producing extremely fine Alsatian wines, as well as some from South Africa, with his wife Sophie. As a formidable team, they’re no strangers to hard work, having made cross-continental vino since their mid-twenties. This wine is from the limestone soils of their Grand Cru Rosacker site, which they spruik to be one of the most famous Grand Cru sites in the region.
The wine has a core of commanding minerality, wrapped up in threads of apricot, lime and pear. The spice on this wine is intriguing and the layers of complexity will have your drawn back to the glass at an alarming speed. For lovers of the textural and generous wines, there is so much to discover in this, all driven by taut minerality and lively acid.
Part of our Women in Wine Collection
We are committed to ALWAYS having wines available that are made by women. In an industry that’s still dominated by men, we believe in celebrating the incredible work women are doing. Here’s to our Women in Wine!
Winemakers: Sophie & Julien Schaal. Sophie’s a Burgundian native as well as a Dijon University graduate, and makes these wines with husband Julien.
“The subtle nose of this wine reveals precise, lifted lemon zest. That brightness fills out the streamlined palate with ripe peach but everything happens along that central freshness, yet fully ripe and energetic. The dry, racy finish has a touch of tangerine.”
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.
