Granbazán Etiqueta Ambar Albariño 2020
- Rias Baixas
This is the first vintage we’ve sold of the Etiqueta Ambar (Amber Label) from Granbazán, who are a best-in-class producer of Galicia’s famed albariño variety, based in Rias Baixas. Their Green Label screamed out the door earlier this year so we have now started offering their more premium wines.
This wine is a step up from the Green Label in texture, intensity, length and elegance. The grapes come from a vineyard grown on the sandy-granite soil that the region is famous for and are hand-picked with care before heading to the winery. The grapes see 12 hours of skin contact, which builds flavour and texture into the juice which is then fermented and aged on lees for 8 months. Albariño has naturally high acidity and the granite soil imparts an energy, giving additional lift to the wine. The role of the lees is to build texture in the palate, so the wine has a wonderfully broad mouthfeel, balanced by freshness and drive.
“Apple blossom, fresh apricot, persimmon, waxed lemon, sea salt and blanched almond on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with sharp acidity. Tangy, textured and saline. Vibrant and long.”
Full price $59.00 from the producer.
