Chardonnay 2018 – Black Market Deal #35571
- Rich, full
- Tasmania
Have we got something good for you! Single vineyard reserve chardonnay from a Five Red Star James Halliday rated winery in Northern Tasmania. Here’s a little rundown of the Rolls Royce treatment given to this wine: the vines were rigorously hand-pruned to provide good sun exposure for ample ripeness. They were then hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, followed by a partial wild ferment before being gravity-fed to 40% new French oak barrels with regular lees-stirring for nine months. The wine was then bottled unfined and unfiltered, providing incredible texture, tension and intensity. It’s funky, flinty, nutty and citrusy. Such a compelling wine at an even more compelling price.

What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
Full price $52.00 from the producer.

Some of the country's highest quality and best value wines unarguably come from this wee island, and the average bottle price is higher than any other region. It is probably the most sustainable part of the Aussie wine industry, given its relatively untapped potential and consistency of quality. There's no denying that the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, sparkling and aromatic whites are up there with the best.
