Chardonnay 2016 – Black Market Deal #35706
- Rich, full
Most Tassie chardonnay doesn’t stick around long enough to show a bit of age. Due to its popularity, it all gets snatched up and drunk quickly. We’ve lucked upon one here from 2016 that’s made by a top producer in the Coal River Valley. It has the driving citrusy acid, floral aromatics and minerality of good chardy from the island, but the four years of age have given rise to a bit of creaminess and cashew-like nuttiness to make the wine even more interesting. We’re loving it here at the ‘Fo.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
Full price $36.00 from the producer.

Some of the country's highest quality and best value wines unarguably come from this wee island, and the average bottle price is higher than any other region. It is probably the most sustainable part of the Aussie wine industry, given its relatively untapped potential and consistency of quality. There's no denying that the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, sparkling and aromatic whites are up there with the best.
