Viognier is not a wine for every day, especially in its ripe, Vale form like this one. It’s full-on, lick-your-face happy wine, all honeycomb, peach and apricot.

But when it’s on, it’s on. The hyperfragrance is tamed by some white pepper spice, gentler floral notes, creamy round body and a stonefruit-citrus palate that’s full and refreshing. My advice is to start with it a little overchilled to tame its more exuberant notes and ease into it. Watch it open up and become a little more unruly in the glass... if it gets out of hand, spank it with an ice block. Or just drink faster.
