Why do we love this wine?

E.J. Carr and his legendary House of Arras are generally considered the best sparkling producer in all of Australia, one that rivals the top houses of Champagne. This is Grand Vintage 2013, a wine that isn’t made every year. In fact there wasn’t one produced in 2010, 2011 or 2012. It’s about 2/3 chardonnay and 1/3 pinot noir and has undergone a massive seven years tirage. Quite dry with an imperceptible 2.7 g/L dosage, it’s elegantly crisp whilst still maintaining body, depth and layered complexity. You’ll find floral notes, lemon essence, lychee, oyster shell, sourdough, mushrooms, almond and more if you take the time to explore the nose and palate of the wine. This is the equivalent of great vintage Champagne, only produced closer to home by an Australian icon.
