Tabali Pedrogoso Gran Reserva Rosé 2021
- Crisp, dry
We’re ecstatic about Tabalí here at the ‘Fo. It’s the first time their wines have been in Australia (as far as we know). Their chardonnay was the initial attention grabber (trust me when I say that South America is doing some incredible stuff with chardy right now) but once we tasted the entire range, we were smitten. They have three main vineyards spanning the width of the narrow country of Chile. Talinay is their tiny coastal vineyard and the source of chardonnay and pinot noir that sits amongst the best in the world. Dom is in the Maipo Valley and a great location for elegant and cellarworthy cabernet. Finally there’s Río Hurtado, situated at 1600 metres as you head up the Andes. From this vineyard comes malbec, although made famous in Argentina, that is probably the best example of the variety in Chile.
Pinot noir from the Limarí Valley in central Chile goes into this rosé, one that is pale in colour with elegant floral and fruity notes on the nose. It’s refreshing for sure, but there’s a complexity not often found in the style. Look for the usual strawberry and cherry, but dig deeper to find raspberry, hibiscus, watermelon and even wet stone. It’s no surprise that this rosé is so good, considering what Tabalí can do with its source variety of pinot noir.
