Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Pinot Noir Rosé 2020
- Crisp, dry
Horra, the 2020 Gapsted rosé is here, lovingly made from a Mofo fave producer. Grown on vines that feature the eponymous ‘ballerina canopy’, this King Valley pinot noir rosé is grown on some vertically trained shoots that look like a ballerina dress, which hangs down on either side of the trellis. It makes for a pretty, but labour intensive growing system, that allows more airflow and control of grapevine vigour. Gapsted follow this kind of meticulous hands-on vineyard word with the same attention to detail in the winery. The grapes see small batch fermentation and oak maturation, and the result is the purest expression of these dance-worthy grapes you could hope for.
Fragrant wild strawberries and redcurrants meet rich earthiness and a zesty, fresh herbaceousness. Don’t overchill - it’s perfect if you have it out of the fridge for 10 or 20 minutes to let the flavours thrive in the glass. You’re gonna want some antipasto and either a bunch of sun or a crackling fire.
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.

Established in 1997, Gapsted Wines are recognised as one of the big boys of the Victorian Alps. Celebrated for their signature cool climate wines and unwavering commitment to producing first class quality, the talented team at Gapsted have adapted a meticulous approach to winemaking which has seen them grow bigger and better with each passing year.
If I had to wrap Vic up in a broad sweeping statement about so many regions bundled up into a convenient if arbitrary delineation based on government legislated boundaries, then it would be to say that it's home to some of the greatest cool climate regions in the world, producing wonders such as Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, Henty Riesling, Nagambie Marsanne and Yarra Valley Chardonnay. If you're Victorian, then count yourself lucky that you're so close to this juice, you footy-loving, tram-catching, fixie-riding freak, you.
