Undurraga Trama Pinot Noir 2019
- Textured, savoury
- Chile
We’ve been ordering wines from Chile for years now - cabernet, sauv blanc, bubbles etc. Last year was the first time we found a pinot noir from this long sliver of nation that we thought was worthy of our mofo’s palates. It was so popular that we’ve gone back for another vintage.
Profile
It comes from a single vineyard in the San Antonio Valley planted just nine kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. The soil is similar in composition to parts of the Willamette Valley in Oregon where marine sediment, granite and sand are the main components. This allows for superior root development and drainage but pushes the vines to struggle a little, encouraging concentration of flavour in the berries.
This is small batch stuff, fermented with indigenous yeast, and aged carefully in large format third-use French oak. In other words, let the fruit speak for itself! We’re not the only ones who have taken notice of this exciting South American pinot project, as evidenced by an exceptional score from Tim Atkin MW.
Full price $80.00 from the producer.
