Why do we love this wine?

From an organically managed vineyard, this is big, classic Central Otago pinot, from owner Hayden Johnston who works with ex-Alsatian Frenchman Anthony Worch exclusively on pinot noir, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc (of course). Sam Kim called this wine “an impeccably composed and gloriously expressed pinot” with a “captivating bouquet” of berries, cocoa, a touch of oak (cedar and vanilla). Spicy and savoury, you can get into it now or leave it to develop for a couple of years yet. I wouldn’t leave it though, because it’s just so damn good now. It even won a gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards, which is only fitting because it comes from a region that was previously goldfields. I guess they are again.
