Why do we love this wine?

I’m not normally a fan of oak, let alone lots of it, but here it’s so drowned in dark fruit that it just works. It’s definitely a young wine, exuberant even. So here’s Spain’s well-lauded Hill of Grace gift-level equivalent, or something to stash in the cellar and forget about for a few years, and let appreciate in flavour and value.

Guía Proensa gave this wine a perfect score alongside Vega Sicilia’s ‘Unique’ 2005 in his 2017 guide (he’s basically Spanish James Halliday). For those who know Spanish reds, that’s not bad. This is very, very good wine. You could buy a Grange, or you could buy four of these for the same price and have plenty of change left over for a life-changing dinner at Scopri (who BYO, incidentally). If you’re ever in Carlton...

But I digress. I think you’ve got the picture by now though. It’s kind of a big deal, Spain-style. So tuck in.
