Known to provide a notch more elegance and aromatic lift than it’s bigger sibling up the road (McLaren Vale, of course), the Fleurieu Peninsula is a surprise packet filled to the brim of high class wines. If you’re yet to sample the good stuff from this region, this Halliday Five Star Red Producer is a great start. Made up mostly of trusty ‘fruit forward’ shiraz to flesh out the palate, its 35% mataro blend is what provides true personality; with a moreish dark chocolate undertone and savoury edge which is framed nicely thanks to a 12 month dip in seasoned oak. This will be the perfect accompaniment to any chargrilled red meat or root vegetable dish.
