Why do we love this wine?
Yeah yeah, we know. All the Coonawarra hype is for the cabernet. BUT, did you know that the region started as a shiraz powerhouse and there’s still exceptional examples being produced today from older vineyards? I know because we’ve got one of those right here. It’s full-bodied, but lively enough to jump out of the glass. There’s a savoury, spicy element to it, a touch of chocolate, and a nice backbone of oak from 18 months in 30% new French barrels. We’re not saying to skip over the cabernet by any means, but leave a place at the table for Coonawarra shiraz of this quality.
