Shiraz 2018 – Black Market Deal #36478
- Textured, savoury
- Eden Valley
We are very partial to Eden Valley wines here at the ‘Fo. It’s Barossa’s slightly cooler neighbour, cooler in temperature from the high altitude and in that colloquial sense. The regional hub of Angaston has charm and then some, they make insanely good riesling, and i’ts home to the Henschke empire (that this wine does not come from...). So, it’s a terrific place and this wine is equally terrific.
This wine is classic Eden shiraz with a concentrated core of dark blue and purple. There is balanced richness with savoury and non-fruit characteristics of anise, cinnamon and a little leather. It has an elegant, medium body and a long finish. This shiraz is wrapped up in 14 months of French oak (30% of which is new) which has give the wine tannin to enjoy now, but will also age.

Next door to the Barossa Valley lies Eden Valley, a small yet highly significant Aussie region celebrated for their signature cool climate wines and impressive history. According to our sources, the first Eden Valley vineyard was planted in the early 1840s, and today there are just over 12 local wineries, both boutique and family-owned that continue to produce, exceptional vintages, including the famous Yalumba and Henschke. Renowned for their signature riesling and shiraz, the glorious region is a heavenly picking field for A-grade fruit. It comes as no surprise that many of Australia's winemakers source their grapes from the Eden Valley.
