Shiraz 2016 – Black Market Deal #35021
- Rich, full-bodied
The Halliday Wine Companion rated Heathcote’s 2016 vintage a 9 out of 10 score with shiraz leading the charge as the grape of choice after a warm, dry summer of ripening. If you like your reds big and bold, look no further than this deal here. Unapologetically large aromas of ripened dark fleshy fruits, robust wood and coffee characters kick off proceedings and carry through the palate and long after the finish with mouth-coating viscosity. This power house is not for the faint of heart. Pop a juicy steak on the grill and coat it in some rich BBQ sauce and this oak-laden wine will pair just perfectly. Get ready for a flavour sensation.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.

There are two distinct styles of Heathcote wine, which can get confusing. There's Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck at the giant end of the spectrum for Greenock Creek lovers (I'm talking 17.5% alcohol!). And then there's Jasper Hill, Heathcote Estate, Chalmers' new Heathcote outfit and some new alternative varieties that seem to be making it into the best weird and wonderful natural wines in the country. Think Shiraz here traditionally, but don't be afraid to try the Nebbiolo, Fiano and Lagrein from painstakingly selected vineyards. They're refreshingly delicious.
The rules are there ain’t no rules, but here are some foods we think will work pretty well with this wine...
