Why do we love this wine?

This one of the best Aussie sangios we’ve tried and comes from what is possibly the best sangiovese vineyard in Australia, spread over the ancient Cambrian soils in Heathcote. There’s structure, there’s acid and there is certainly winemaking skill, but a lot of the potential of the wine comes purely from this vineyard.

There are savoury meats and red fruits on the nose, with a structured palate featuring cherries and moving into the blood plum realm. There’s a lovely high acidity and it’s really quite moreish, with subtle but grippy tannins. It leaves you just wanting to go back for a second sip, or slurp, depending on your style.

It’s drinking beautifully now but you could put away a couple for a few years. This is a definite food wine and will go perfectly with your rustic, Italian-style sauces, or stew or barbecues as we head into the summertime. The winemaker is a total legend as well, with rich Italian heritage, and with 95 points from Wine Showcase and 93 from James Halliday, we honestly can’t recommend this sangio enough.
