San Polino Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015
- Textured, savoury
- Tuscany
San Polino is the first biodynamic estate in Brunello, and they’re a subscriber to the saying, ‘wine is made in the vineyard’. It shows. We’ve been extremely lucky to have a few of the personality-driven wines from the San Polino vineyards, but we were yet to know luck until this arrived on our doorstep. Reserved only for years when the fruit is deemed exceptional, this wine has only seen production 7 times in the last 2 decades. Sandy loam and volcanic composition nurtures vines for long periods of ripening; while the south facing vineyards at 450m heights encourage prime ripening conditions for complexity and structure. An impressive 4 years in large Slovenian oak gave this wine supreme power to start its (very) long life. The pendulum swings between deep plum, balsamic, dried flowers, blackberry jam, and reaches back to an energetic core. The layers melt onto the tongue and linger for longer than we could keep track of. You might want to sit down, because this wine will bring you to your knees. It will leave you speechless. It might even bring a tear to your eye. Truly, transcendent.

Part of our Women in Wine Collection
We are committed to ALWAYS having wines available that are made by women. In an industry that’s still dominated by men, we believe in celebrating the incredible work women are doing. Here’s to our Women in Wine!
Winemakers: Katia Nussbaum & Gigi Fabbro
San Polino is owned and run by Londoner Katia Nussbaum and Luigi (Gigi) Fabbro from Friuli. San Polino was Montalcino’s first certified organic estate and is now run biodynamically. “We tend to make the wines first and think about how to sell them later,” says Katia. Decanter says: “The wines are joyful. They have depth and power and a wonderfully expressive complexity.”
Reviews
James Suckling
“The beauty and balance of this Brunello is wonderful, offering blueberry, black-cherry and violet character. It’s full-bodied, yet so layered and refined with and ultra fine palate of silky tannins. A joy to taste. From organically grown grapes. One both to drink and for the cellar.”

Ah...Tuscany. The home of rolling hills, extra virgin olive oil, Steak Florentine and, of course, Chianti. Everything here is about the earth, and it shows through in the produce. Earthy, vinous, purely rustic and unadulterated. Some of our most enjoyable experiences have come from here. They don't generally come cheap, but they're well worth it.
