Pinot Noir 2020 – Black Market Deal #37456
- Elegant, lighter
2020 was a challenging vintage in Tasmania; not in terms of quality but in terms of quantity. The wines look fantastic across all varieties. Unfortunately there just isn’t a huge volume of them. And with Tassie pinot being in such high demand, we were quite chuffed to get our hands on this drop made by one of our favourite producers from the Apple Isle. It’s quite elegant with a bit of earthiness behind the cherry and strawberry fruit profile. Up front you can taste some bramble drawn from partial whole bunch pressing, but that soon gives way to the silky palate and gently spiced finish. Get in quick as I don’t expect we’ll see a lot more Tassie pinot before the next vintage.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
Full price $38.00 from the producer.

Some of the country's highest quality and best value wines unarguably come from this wee island, and the average bottle price is higher than any other region. It is probably the most sustainable part of the Aussie wine industry, given its relatively untapped potential and consistency of quality. There's no denying that the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, sparkling and aromatic whites are up there with the best.
