Pinot Noir 2018 – Black Market Deal #38169
- Textured, savoury
- Central Otago
The vineyard source for this pinot is approaching 20 years of age (quite old for Otago and right in the sweet spot for the variety), and is managed with organic and sustainable practices. The wine, from the strong 2018 vintage, is densely coloured and perfumed on the nose with hints of dark berries, spice and savoury characters. The palate shows plums and cherries, further spicy notes and fine tannins. There’s a touch of oak that has integrated nicely and the finish is quite persistent. Everything you’d want from an Otago pinot is right there in the bottle. Enjoy!
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.

Central Otago is the New Zealand's highest and the world's most southerly wine region at latitude 45°S. It has cold winters, hot summers, cool nights and low rainfall, and is ideally suited to Pinot Noir, which covers 80% of plantings. The rest is mainly planted to Chardonnay, with smatterings of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris. Expect character and intensity as the hallmarks of this marginal region.
