Pinot Noir 2017 – Black Market Deal #36096
- Textured, savoury
- Marlborough
When you get past Marlborough’s massive wall of savvy b, you’ll be able to dig into what really hums from this beautiful region at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. The winemakers there know it and so should you: Marlborough pinot noir is awesome, especially the single vineyard stuff that’s given the Rolls Royce treatment in the winery.
Profile
This one comes from what is probably Marlborough’s most renowned pinot vineyard, one that was high-density planted nearly 30 years ago and is certified organic. Everything was done with meticulous attention from hand picking, to basket pressing, to moving the wine into a mix of new and old oak for ageing. Once in bottle and ready to go, the wine is one of confident intensity, elegant restraint and ever present structure. The fruit is primarily strawberry and cherry with an underlying earthiness attributed to the clay soils of the vineyard. An insanely beautiful pinot with incredible length that has a long life ahead of it.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
Reviews
Justin Dry
“Deliciously drinkable and generous. This is Marlborough Pinot Noir at its best. Single vineyard, 97 points and insane value at this price. I do normally prefer Martinborough for my NZ Pinot but I’ve ordered this one many times now and will again because it is so bloody delicious.”
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.
