Pinot Noir 2015 – Black Market Deal #36095
- Elegant, lighter
When you get past Marlborough’s massive wall of savvy b, you’ll be able to dig into what really hums from this beautiful region at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. The winemakers there know it and so should you: Marlborough pinot noir is awesome, especially the single vineyard stuff that’s given the Rolls Royce treatment in the winery.
This one comes from 20 year old vines planted in free draining river gravel over silt loam and clay. After hand-harvesting and fermenting, the winemaker rests the wine in 30% new 300L oak. The finished wine is bright and aromatic, expressing blueberry, plum, violet, cinnamon and nutmeg. Behind all of this is a savoury character and hints of aniseed. Fine tannins lead to a focused finish with great length. This is a pure expression of Marlborough’s pinot potential.
