Olivares Tinto 2018
- Medium bodied
Bodegas Olivares are a family-run winery in the sunny region of Jumilla in the south-east of Spain that we’ve been working with for many years now. Their wines aren’t flashy, but rather consistently delicious and unbelievably good value.
This is a rework of the popular GSM, with the local monastrell (mataro to Aussies), taking the lead role to make a MGS. The wine has sun-drenched summer fruit with a fresh, breezy acidity from the high altitude in which it’s grown. With sweet, swarthy berries and an exotically spiced finish, we can attest that it’s bloody hard to turn down a second (or third) glass.
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.

Think Jumilla - think monastrell. That's right, mourvedre. Mataro, even. Yep, it's all one and the same. But it's Jumilla's staple, making up over 85% of the grapes grown in this small region, and the examples from here are juicy and delicious. Get amongst it and taste monastrell like you've never tasted before. By the end of a bottle, you'll be able to pronounce it properly... quite the opposite effect of most wine.
