McArthur Ridge Southern Tor Pinot Noir 2014
- Textured, savoury
- Central Otago
McArthur Ridge is a 20-year old vineyard with exceptional drainage located just north of Alexandra and between the Mata-Au and Manuherikia Rivers in Central Otago. Southern Tor references a hilly outcrop towards the south end of the vineyard, the source for this wine. The grapes were harvested by hand and even after seven years, exhibit bright primary fruit characters in the wine. Think plums, cherries and strawberries. Of course those secondary notes have also sprung forward with a bit of char, dried herbs and mushrooms. Thereās a nice mineral line as well, finishing off what is a complete expression of Otago pinot with some age on it.

Region
Central Otago
Central Otago is the New Zealand's highest and the world's most southerly wine region at latitude 45°S. It has cold winters, hot summers, cool nights and low rainfall, and is ideally suited to Pinot Noir, which covers 80% of plantings. The rest is mainly planted to Chardonnay, with smatterings of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris. Expect character and intensity as the hallmarks of this marginal region.
