Marqués del Silvo Crianza Rioja 2017
- Textured, savoury
- Rioja DOC
Good things take time, or at least that’s the theory in Spain - particularly when it comes to the world-famous wines from the Rioja region. In the case of this tempranillo-dominant red from Marqués del Silvo - it’s a Crianza level - which means it has spent a minimum of 24 month ageing (in bottle and barrel) before release.
This time allows the wine and the oak to integrate and some of the tannins to smooth out. Oak presence remains on both the nose and the palate, but is nestled into cherry fruit and licorice spice. The wine is medium-bodied and a great example of the Crianza style from an accessible producer.
Wine & Spirits
“Plump and rich, even as it’s transparent enough in colour to let light through the glass, this is a little Rioja that holds its freshness for days after the bottle is first opened. It’s fragrant fruit ranges from light red plum to darker purple, then it lasts with a strawberry undertow. Decant for roast quail or other game birds.”
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.
