Why do we love this wine?

It’s time to get educational, mofos, ‘cause we don’t want you throwing out the big bucks without knowing what you’re getting into (hint: it’s delicious). Manzone does not imply some testosterone-fueled tasting room, it instead refers to Giovanni Manzone, the Italian fella who started this winery in 1925, and henceforth began the tradition of crafting primo Barolo.

Barolo is a red wine made from the nebbiolo grape, considered one of Italy’s greatest wines, and Gramolere is the region in which it’s grown. DOCG is an acronym for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, a government guarantee of both the wine’s origin AND quality. For reference, over 300 regions in Italy have a DOC guarantee (origin only), but less than 30 are rockin’ a DOCG tag.

Yeah yeah, fancy foreign languages and government guarantees are cool and all, but how do I know it’s any good? Well, James Suckling pinned it at 95 points and Wine Observer at 94 so we know there’s serious quality here, as would be expected after ageing for 30 months.

There’s a warm, fruity taste thanks to a harmonious blend of cherry and raspberry, and it goes down a treat with roasts and cheese to carry you through your whole meal. No regrets mofos, bust this one out on a special occasion – you’ve earned it.
