Losada Pájaro Rojo Mencía 2019
- Medium bodied
- Bierzo
Meet the Pájaro Rojo, or Red Bird, the light, bright mencía made by superstars Losada. This is from the cool region of Bierzo in the north west of Spain, famous for their medium-bodied and hyper-perfumed wines that range from playful to powerful. This one is at the playful end of the spectrum, but made by one of the region’s best - so no simple wine.
Profile
If you are unfamiliar with the grape of region, imagine that this is Spain’s answer to Beaujolais. Bright, energetic fruity fun, with a soft and immensely satisfying finish. Mencía is a grape imbued with wondrously heady florals and bright summer berries, but a smidge more richness on the palate to back it up. If you’re fond of the flavours in gamay or a super-light grenache, this is a wine made for you.
