La Posta Domingo Fazzio Malbec 2019

Like many Italians of the era, Salvador Fazzio immigrated from Sicily to Argentina back in 1917. His son Francisco planted a 15 hectare vineyard in 1955 in Tupungato, part of the Valle de Uco in Mendoza. Domingo Fazzio, the third generation of this family’s Argentine story, now tends the vineyard. It sits at 1100 metres with a soil composition of loam over alluvial stones and borders its water source, the Tunas River.
The malbec sourced from the Fazzio vineyard for this wine comes from more recent plantings on the land. Half of the wine spends time in second use French oak with the remaining portion resting in tank to preserve the brightness of the fruit. The nose is vibrant and bursting with cherries and plums before giving way to more floral notes such as violets and roses. The palate carries both chocolate and vanilla, along with a nice spicy complexity and bold tannin structure. James Suckling really took to the wine, as shown in his review below.
“This has such interesting, sweet and fragrant, violet-like florals with rich purple fruit and a faint, stony edge. The palate is very plush and rich and the velvety tannins carry so long and even. Black-cherry and cocoa-powder finish. A more serious vintage for this wine. Drink or hold.”

Mendoza is a beautiful region within Argentina that is known for their powerful Malbecs, although the region has begun to branch out to prove that they're not a one grape wonder. Being responsible for nearly 80% of the total production, the region produces Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Tempranillo, Chenin and various other grapes.
