La Bollina Corte Medicea Eklektos Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
- Rich, full-bodied
- Tuscany
Most wine lovers know that producers in Tuscany started playing around with the Bordeaux varieties a few decades ago. They were willing to give up their highly-regulated regional classifications in the pursuit of creating the best wines. There was great success, both in the bottle and in the market. Nowadays, it’s no big deal to see a Tuscan winery release a cabernet. This one is so good, Luca Maroni has not only given it 99 points AGAIN, but he’s named it the best Italian wine of the year, AGAIN. You can’t really do better than that. It’s cabernet as you essentially know it, with structure and tannin to carry a profile of plums, blueberries, mocha and spice. Luca thinks it’s pretty perfect and we’re not gonna argue with that.

La Bollina
In the heart of Gavi lies this 120ha property. Where once resided the Marchioness Figari of Genova, the villa onsite is now a luxury hotel where you can live out your dreams of eating and drinking like Italian nobility. Planted over 25ha (the rest dedicated to golf courses and chestnut woods) are traditional grape varieties like cortese, chardonnay, barbera, dolcetto and nebbiolo. Founded in 2009, La Bollina honours the historical and rural traditions of the area, although their winemaking techniques have been completely overhauled. They now use only the best modern winemaking techniques to make the best Piedmontese wines possible.

Tuscany
Ah...Tuscany. The home of rolling hills, extra virgin olive oil, Steak Florentine and, of course, Chianti. Everything here is about the earth, and it shows through in the produce. Earthy, vinous, purely rustic and unadulterated. Some of our most enjoyable experiences have come from here. They don't generally come cheap, but they're well worth it.
