Grant Burge Balthasar Shiraz 2018
- Rich, full-bodied
- Eden Valley
There’s a biblical bent to the naming of some of the top wines from Barossa icon Grant Burge. This is the Balthasar, named after one of the three wise men. It’s sourced from the Eden Valley, an area in the Barossa that tends towards elegance and varietal definition in it’s wines due to a cooler climate relative to the rest of the region. The super premium fruit gets extended time on skins before spending 18 months in a mix of old and new French oak. Upon opening, there’s a bright perfumed nose with berries, spices and pepper. Have a taste and you’ll find more berries, chocolate, fruit cake, a hint of vanilla and lingering smooth tannins. This is special stuff, built to age and worthy of the 97 point score it received in the Decanter World Wine Awards. Check out the review below.
“Heady and perfumed with pomegranate, black pepper, plush black cherry and spiced liquorice, while the luscious, textured palate is sleek with chocolate tannins, seamless red fruit and seductive oak.”

If you don't know "Grant Burge" I'm not too sure we can be friends. This legendary 5 red star producer is an Australian icon that is recognised and respected on an international level. Located in the Barossa, winemakers Grant Burge and Craig Stansborough craft exquisite wines for every tier of appreciation.
Next door to the Barossa Valley lies Eden Valley, a small yet highly significant Aussie region celebrated for their signature cool climate wines and impressive history. According to our sources, the first Eden Valley vineyard was planted in the early 1840s, and today there are just over 12 local wineries, both boutique and family-owned that continue to produce, exceptional vintages, including the famous Yalumba and Henschke. Renowned for their signature riesling and shiraz, the glorious region is a heavenly picking field for A-grade fruit. It comes as no surprise that many of Australia's winemakers source their grapes from the Eden Valley.
