Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Chiroubles Claudius 2018
- Medium bodied
Domaine de la Grosse-Pierre is a small producer making excellent gamay-based wines in France’s Beaujolais region. With access to old vines on granite soils, this is truely a case of the wines being made in the vineyard. In the winery, they practice a minimal intervention philosophy, which results in pure-fruited. vibrant and lively wines. It was the Jancis Robinson wine of the week earlier this year and Julia Harding’s review below tells you all about this wonderful wine. And we trust Julia, she’s a Master of Wine.
“The Domaine de la Grosse Pierre 2018 Chiroubles is ready for drinking now if you want to enjoy its pure, juicy primary cherry and blackberry fruit but you could also keep it for a few years while the tannins, which are already fine, become even more silky. While this fresh ripe fruit is to the fore, the wine finishes with a more savoury, slightly darker flavour, adding another dimension.”

Oh Beaujolais, how we love you! Known for growing the delicious Gamay grape, this French wine region is located just north of Lyon. While administratively considered part of the Burgundy wine region and the climate here is close to the Rhône - the wine is unique unto itself.
