Domaine de la Grosse Pierre Chiroubles Aux Craz 2018
- Medium bodied
- Beaujolais
What you are looking at here is CRAZ-Y value, top shelf single vineyard Beaujolais, from Domaine de la Grosse Pierre. Beaujolais is famous for its light, bright, fruity wines made from gamay, and this wine, though as easy to drink as the usual Bojo, takes the category to new heights and depths. The height we are talking about is from 70 year old gamay vines, planted at 460 metres above sea level, giving the grapes a long growing season and lots of complexity. The depths are the layers of detail in the wonderful wine. It is a wine that is both bold with rich fruit and deep with nuance of spice, flowers and freshness. William Kelley
“Offering up aromas of ripe cherries and raspberries as well as hints of rose petal and peony, the 2018 Chiroubles Aux Craz is medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, its deep core of succulent fruit framed by satiny tannins. This bottling derives from 70-year-old vines in the domaine's highest-altitude holdings in lieu-dit Grosse Pierre.”

Oh Beaujolais, how we love you! Known for growing the delicious Gamay grape, this French wine region is located just north of Lyon. While administratively considered part of the Burgundy wine region and the climate here is close to the Rhône - the wine is unique unto itself.
