Domaine Charton Vieilles Vignes AOP Mercurey Rouge 2018
- Medium bodied
- Burgundy
Domaine Charton is a family-run Burgundy producer who has been making wine in Mercurey (Côte Chalonnaise) for generations. They are a unique producer with a red wine focus in a predominantly white wine area. Vineyards range from Bourgogne level to Premier Cru and all wines are made with particular attention to detail, starting in the vineyards, which they manage meticulously.
Profile
This is their old Bourgone-level from old vines, with an average age of 50 year. All of the hard work is done in the vineyard and the wine sees the moderate influence of 30% new barrels over a year of ageing. This is a firm-fruited style of Burgundy with generous red berries, ripe plums and a touch of spice. The subtle oak influence plays second fiddle to all of the luscious fruit, acidity that gives the wine good length and a bit of tannin that suggests this wine will sing with food.
Full price $80.00 from the producer.
