De Bortoli The Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019
- Textured, savoury
- Yarra Valley
Our producer needs no introduction, but we’ll give you one anyway. The one and only De Bortoli are royalty in the Yarra Valley, having been there since 1928. Their story is one of family, of passion, and above all of harnessing life’s great pleasures: good wine, food, and friends.
We couldn’t have jumped at this pinot faster- as is the way with the grape from the Valley. Dare we say, this wine is a bit sexy. Seeing a slow ripening over the 2019 vintage, it’s so perfumed and pretty on the nose, you almost don’t expect it to be so serious on the palate. Starting out smooth, the fine tannins build with every sip. Those cherry and strawberry flavours are complimented with light baking spice and violet intensity. The De Bortoli’s would insist this is enjoyed with no luxury spared, and we’ll be doing just that.
“"At first, this seems to slip by and through so easily; the supple smooth tannins just glide across the medium-bodied palate. But then the flavours linger, the spice and florals seem headier. It gives more with each sip and swirl. A lovely wine that won’t send you broke.”
