Château Tour Saint Christophe Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019
- Textured, savoury
- Bordeaux
Château Tour Saint Christophe is a bit of an anomoly in Bordeaux as a section of the vineyard is planted on narrow terraces. The site overlooks the Saint Laurent Valley and is located entirely within the appellation of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. The southwest-facing plot over clay and limestone enjoys perfect drainage due to the terraced arrangement.
Profile
This 80/20 blend of merlot and cabernet franc is fermented in a mix of concrete tanks and Bordeaux barrels before resting for 15 months in 40% new oak. On the nose you’ll find black cherry, tar, chocolate, spice and leather. Blackberry and pepper dominate the palate and the finish is lengthy with ripe tannins.
Reviews
Jeb Dunnuck
“From an estate that continues to fire on all cylinders, the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe reveals a saturated purple colour to go with a pretty, floral bouquet of black raspberries, mulberries, violets, graphite, and crushed stone. Fabulously balanced, medium to full-bodied, with good acidity as well as sweet tannins, it's a finesse oriented, elegant version of this cuvée that does everything right. This estate has backed off the power and ripeness over the past few vintages, and the wine is more elegant, balanced, and seamless. It's a better wine today.»”

Bordeaux
Bordeaux is one of the oldest and most famous regions within France, known for both its Left Bank which produces more Cabernet Sauvignon based blends and its Right Bank which produces more Merlot based blends. Bordeaux is home to many of the worlds most expensive wines. The big guys on the left bank are Pauillac and Margaux and on the right you've got Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. Not forgetting the whites and the sweet stuff though, Bordeaux also is known for producing dry whites in Pessac-Leognan and sweet wines in Sauternes. The most common grapes grown in Bordeaux are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
