Cap Royal Bordeaux Supérieur 2018
- Textured, savoury
- Bordeaux
Cap Royal Bordeaux Supérieur is a ‘sum of its parts’ sort of wine. Jean-René Matignon, winemaker at the renowned Chateau Pichon Baron, is in charge of the wine each vintage and uses his extensive connections in Bordeaux to source grapes from vineyards he sees fit for the year’s blend. This allows him to select the best fruit to achieve his vinous goal without being limited to one plot of land. The 2018 vintage is 75% merlot and 25% cabernet sauvignon. Intensely coloured with a nose of blackberry, blueberry and spice, the wine expresses more dark fruits, vanilla and toasted oak on the palate. It’s powerful and rich, yet refreshing.

Bordeaux
Bordeaux is one of the oldest and most famous regions within France, known for both its Left Bank which produces more Cabernet Sauvignon based blends and its Right Bank which produces more Merlot based blends. Bordeaux is home to many of the worlds most expensive wines. The big guys on the left bank are Pauillac and Margaux and on the right you've got Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. Not forgetting the whites and the sweet stuff though, Bordeaux also is known for producing dry whites in Pessac-Leognan and sweet wines in Sauternes. The most common grapes grown in Bordeaux are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
