Why do we love this wine?

We’re at the Tasting Bench again with the Mofo Broker team and Karel shedding light on his latest wine buy, basically at my behest because I wanted to try this before writing it up.

James Halliday
5 Red Star Halliday rated producer

“Ooooh that’s very high intensity. You can smell it from here,” comes a comment from Zahn, about three metres from where this is taking place (it’s a bloody big Tasting Bench).

“Mudgee’s a really lovey region,” Karel kicks off. “We used to go there about four times a year, pre-kids. It’s a really lovely place, humble farming country with a bunch of family-owned wineries, and this one’s incredibly well respected.

“You might hear Mudgee wines called ‘Mudgee mud’, and this is not that. Very dark, very cellar-worthy. Not as earthy as Hunter generally, more of a medium- to full-bodied, savoury style.”

“I love it,” comes one comment.

“Yep, I like it. Very savoury, lots of red fruit.” says Maddie confidently. “Three stars from me.” You might know Maddie from Youtube. She’s a brilliant young actor.

“Is that three out of five, Maddie?” comes a question from the other side of the Bench.

“I’ve never done it before,” admits Maddie. “It’s new to me.”

A brilliant young actor, but no Master of Wine. We’ll take our 94pt Halliday review. But don’t be discouraged Maddie, practice makes perfect.

We can’t reveal the brand of this wine on our site. It’s a promise we made to the producer and that’s how we secured the deal. You still get the real McCoy – no cleanskins, no knockoffs, just top shelf vino at up to 70% off. Trust us, you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
