Adega Mãe Pinta Negra Tinto 2019
- Medium bodied
- Lisbon
I think I’ve found a new favourite producer - from a winery and region new to the ‘fo - Adega Mãe, who are based north of the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. I tried a line-up of their wines recently and they all punch well above their price point, with classic ripe fruit that you’d expect from Portuguese red blends and the influence of the nearby Atlantic, bringing freshness and minerality.
Profile
So now, about the wine: there is fruit compote and a touch of cinnamon on the nose. The medium-bodied palate has so much fruit, it’s just delicious. A little lick of vanilla is there but the stars are the red fruits and berries, complimented by a bit of spice and mellow tannin. It’s not dissimilar to Grenache-based wines - a side step from Spain and plusher than what you’d find in the Rhône.
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.

Tasting
From the producer
Bright ruby colour. Intense nose with fresh fruit, wild berries and slight floral notes. Very soft palate with greedy tannins. Easy and straightforward.
