Adega Mãe Dory Tempranillo Blend 2019
- Medium bodied
Adega Mãe, a winery based north of the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, crafts fruit-pure and precise wines that over-deliver for their price. It’s no surprise that their wines are so good, with national winemaking legend Anselmo Mendes working as a consultant on the project - he is one of the most renowned Portuguese oenologists.
Portuguese reds are known to pack a punch and what makes the Adega Mãe wines so compelling is the influence of the cooling Atlantic, bringing freshness and minerality. But don’t worry, there is heaps of punchy fruit too. This red blend leads with tempranillo (Aragonez to the locals) and is medium-bodied and full of dark berries, and a beautiful balance of savoury and sweet notes. It reminds me of Mencía but more generous and quite plush. Pair this with grilled sardines in tomato-based sauce and you’ll be in for a treat.
It’s cool, we get it, you want to know absolutely everything about this wine. Well here you go, go nuts.
