I have written at the bottom of my tasting note for this wine, “Aussies will love this”. It’s from a winery and region new to the ‘fo - Adega Mãe, which is based north of the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. Portuguese reds are known to pack a punch and what makes the Adega Mãe wines so compelling is the influence of the cooling Atlantic, bringing freshness and minerality. But don’t worry, there is heaps of punchy fruit. This red blend is medium-bodied and full of dark berries, and a beautiful balance of savoury and sweet notes. It reminds me of Mencía but more generous and quite plush. Aussies WILL love this.

Ruby colour. Beautiful aromatic intensity, with a mixture of violet, berries, cassis and pepper notes. Juicy palate, with fruit reappearing. Very elegant, fine, with greedy tannins.
